Mayor’s Green Skills Academy showcases Green Skills during National Apprenticeship Week

The Mayor of London’s Green Skills Academy for Local London had a successful National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) 2025, attending a number of events with hub lead, London South East Colleges (LSEC), to promote the programme.

On Tuesday 11th February, Phoebe Winter (Project Coordinator) attended the Greenwich Skills Summit at Woolwich Works, hosting a stand alongside LSEC, to talk to visitors about the benefits of green skills and their integration within apprenticeships. Attendees included school students, as well as the general public. Many productive conversations emerged around upskilling for professionals and how an apprenticeship which incorporates green skills will be beneficial for future careers.

Wednesday saw London South East Colleges host a business breakfast in partnership with the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB). Chandra Sharma (FSB Lead to Bromley) spoke about the support FSB offers for small businesses. Nina Sian (Director of Employer Engagement and Innovation) presented on the benefits of taking on apprentices for businesses, and the hiring process. Phoebe presented on the Mayor of London’s Green Skills Academy, explaining the scheme and how it can help with upskilling within businesses.

On the Thursday, Sonya Mallin and Phoebe attended the South East London Chamber of Commerce Business Breakfast, hosted in collaboration with LSEC. Sonya presented on the work of the academy and its relevance to the businesses in attendance. This led to fruitful conversations with attendees about green skills and the opportunities for individuals within this sector.

That afternoon, the week finished on a high, with the launch of the Mayor’s Green Skills Academy Youth Board! T-Level students in Design, Surveying, and Planning for Construction celebrated ‘T-Level Thursday’ with a talk from John Lewis and Partners about the new Build to Rent development in Bromley. This was followed immediately by the launch event, where learners across all STEM related T-Levels joined to learn more about green skills and sign up for the group. The board will be a network of learners across all colleges within the partnership, who will collaborate to curate a programme of events which supplement their green skills learning. Students welcomed the opportunity, as well as the free pizza! Read more about the launch HERE.
