As part of Colleges’ National Green Week, construction students at London South East Colleges received green skills sessions on retrofit.
These were provided by the Mayor’s Green Skills Academy for Local London as part of their Green Skills Youth Board, and were delivered by Supply Chain Sustainability School. Level 2 Construction apprentices studying carpentry and brickwork at London South East Colleges received these live, and the recordings are being distributed throughout the Mayor’s Green Skills Academy. As such, students at all eight colleges in the partnership will be able to enjoy these sessions.
Students learnt about the purposes of retrofitting buildings, the risks associated with Poor Quality Retrofit, and how retrofit aligns with current regulations and guidelines, amongst other topics.
Matthew Hills, carpentry tutor at London South East Colleges, fed back that “there will definitely be opportunities for the practical application of the knowledge gained from the presentation over their time in industry.”
The student feedback gathered was positive, with one recurring theme being satisfaction that they were learning about new systems relevant to their future careers. One student highlighted the benefits of knowing how retrofit related to PAS guidelines, and others spoke of the importance of this content in relation to their current work.
We are delighted that the sessions were a success, and hope students across the Mayor’s Green Skills Academy for Local London take this knowledge forward to utilise green skills in their future careers.
