SWAP Training Programme Brings Employability Skills to Learners

London South East Colleges are currently running a Sector-based Work Academy Programme (SWAP) with Cory Group, a UK leader in sustainable waste management and recycling. This is designed for unemployed individuals looking to kickstart a career with Cory Group. This company has over 125 years of industry expertise, and are paving the way for good waste disposal processes in London.

Over five weeks, participants are gaining the essential skills and knowledge required to work in the sector, including:

  • NCFE Level 1 Employability Skills (CV writing, personal statements, application forms, interview techniques)
  • Digital Skills for the Workplace
  • Health & Safety Awareness
  • Communication & Conflict Management
  • Introduction to Cory: Environmental Services & Legislation

Throughout the programme, Cory representatives have been engaging directly with participants, discussing the wide range of roles available across the business. All candidates will be guaranteed an interview at the end of the course, with real potential for employment.

Nina Sian, Director of Employer Engagement and Innovation at London South East Colleges, who is leading on this initiative, said that “LSEC is delighted to work in partnership with Bexley Council and Cory to deliver this training to ensure local residents are well equipped to go into local green jobs”.

Anthony, who is currently participating in the SWAP, commented that, “We all had a fantastic time on the course and we learnt about the importance of Health and Safety and lifelong skills.”

Tinuke had similar feedback, stating that, “We had a good time in training. We learnt about how to communicate with people in a respectful way and also learnt about Health and Safety in the workplace. It is a good course.”

Pete also spoke positively about the SWAP, saying, “The course has been very enjoyable, great tutor, very helpful and I have met some great and funny colleagues. Hopefully will get to work with everyone in the room and hopefully be employed by Cory.”
