Winner of national award for: Next Generation Learning & Skills
New City College (NCC) has been formally recognised as the sector leader in designing a curriculum to develop skills for a greener future, at the 20th annual Green Gown Awards.
In a hotly contested category with 11 other shortlisted colleges and universities across the UK and Ireland, the Green Gown Learning & Skills Award was awarded to New City College at a high profile event in Edinburgh.
The award, sponsored by the Chartered Management Institute, recognises New City College’s whole-organisational “Green Skills Revolution”, and more specifically, the investment in and management of a curriculum of hands-on training courses in carbon reduction skills, offered in state-of-the art facilities.
With courses from electric car and charging point maintenance to energy efficiency and retrofit, the college delivers training at specialist facilities at its Rainham and Hackney campuses. Businesses and individuals across the region are already benefiting from the innovative training.
New City College’s award was received at the ceremony by Calley Page, Deputy Group Director: Apprenticeships and Business Development, who plays a key role in identifying the green skills needed across different industries, and championing this important work.
Gerry McDonald, Group Principal & CEO at New City College, said: “I’m delighted that New City College has won this important award. This work brings together our focus on both curriculum innovation and sustainability. It is fabulous that our staff and have received the recognition they deserve for driving forward the green skills agenda.”
NCC’s best practice could now be shared globally: it has now been announced that New City College is a finalist for the International Green Gown Awards which will take place next year.
