Introducing Redbridge Institute of Adult Education

This week, Phil from the Local London Skills Provider network, visited the college to meet with Principal William Pickford, Assistant Principal Maria Sotiriou, and project link Rukshana Ahmed. During the visit, he enjoyed a tour of the college’s facilities and discovered how the Local Skills Improvement Fund (LSIF) has played an important role in reimagining some of the college’s spaces for learning and teaching and the work the college does to support its’ staffs professional learning.

The tour highlighted how the funding has inspired the college to refurbish some of its’ facilities that led to improvements aimed at better supporting both staff and students. A key moment of the visit was watching a staff training session, where colleagues shared how they have integrated LSIF-funded learning into their teaching practices, ultimately enhancing their ability to support the local community. William Pickford said that he felt it was important to make the most of “the opportunity to work with other partners across the network [and] use this to continually refine what Redbridge does for its’ learners.”

In addition to space and training innovations, the college has also explored how artificial intelligence (AI) can assist teachers in saving time. The college has also enjoyed fruitful collaborations with other institutions within the partnership, further strengthening its commitment to improving local education and community engagement. Maria spoke positively about the project’s impact on digital innovation in the classroom and said “that staff learning about new technologies had cascaded across the staff and had increased colleagues confidence and appetite to innovate”.

“The immersive classroom project, provided for Redbridge through the Local Skills Improvement Plan, has given us a fantastic facility for the residents of Redbridge.  The technology has transformed teaching & learning, allowing our students to access the best learning experiences across the borough.” – William Pickford, Principal, Redbridge Institute of Adult Education.
